This is not another article about Tyler Dibling, but somehow, it sort of is.
Alan Myers, a journalist who is well plugged into what is happening at Everton, indicated this morning that he heard that Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu was a player that the Toffees have been keeping their eye on.
Although Myers did not outright say that the Dibling deal was dead, the report at least suggests that Everton have had enough of Southampton's games and are ready to move on from the player, even if they may like him a great deal.
As with all of these rumors, it's difficult to say where the truth lies, but Myers' involvement in this particular connection does add some gravitas to it. In truth, it does make a lot of sense as a heel turn for Everton, as Fatawu does possess many of the same skills that Dibling has, even if the Southampton winger may be slightly further along at a younger age.
Still, Fatawu isn't a player that should be sneezed at. He's a pacy player, who, like Dibling, is predominantly left-footed while playing on the right side of the attack, meaning you'll get a lot of cutting inside to find that left foot, but he won't be limited to the single limb. He's got plenty of skill and a cool head in front of goal.
His FBRef scouting report also suggests that he's not only a willing defender, but is quite effective in that role, something David Moyes will expect from him if he were to join Everton.
While Fatawu is not as young as Dibling (the Ghana international just turned 21 in March), he still has plenty of upside and ability, as evidenced by his 19 goal contributions in 2023/24 with the Foxes in their run to the Championship trophy that season.
The only real cause for concern would be his limited run in the Premier League last season due to suffering an ACL injury after just 11 apperances last year, but he managed 77 minutes in Leicester's Championship opener this weekend, so he looks to be fully recovered.
There's no indication of how much the move would cost, although Leicester did just pay a reported €17 million for him last summer, so you'd figure they'd want to recoup as much of that as they can. But it's still considerably less than what Southampton want for Tyler Dibling, so all things considered, it probably makes a lot of sense for Everton to go after Fatawu to improve their squad.
