Everton: Joel Robles to leave after deciding against new contract
By Paul Taylor
With five teams reportedly interested in Joel Robles, his time with Everton appears set to end before the close of the latest transfer window.
Joel Robles did his part last season to help Everton finish seventh in the Premier League, with 20 appearances. However, he never truly earned Ronald Koeman’s trust to become the undisputed number one in goal.
A prime example of this came towards the end of the 2016/17 campaign, when Robles was dropped for an away trip to face West Ham. A large part of the reason was related to his blunder the game before, which resulted in a penalty for Burnely.
In theory, the 27-year old still has a lot to offer Everton. However, his chances of securing the number one spot took a significant blow, when Koeman signed Jordan Pickford for £30 million.

Robles seems to have accepted his fate, after deciding against signing a contract extension with the Blues. His current deal has one more year to run.
However, the chances are the former Atletico Madrid player won’t be around to complete it. As reported by Spanish sports newspaper Marca, at least five teams are interested in signing him.
One of these teams is apparently newly-promoted Huddersfield Town. However, in all likelihood, the Spanish-born player will be heading back home.
Marca makes reference to four Spanish clubs who want to sign Robles, including Malaga, Deportivo La Coruna, Las Palmas and his home-town team, Getafe. Deportivo and Getafe are believed to be in the strongest position at this time.
In some respects it would be a shame to see Robles go, as he would certainly provide solid depth at the goalkeeping position. However, it probably is best for everyone concerned if he leaves, after failing to take advantage of his opportunity to be the long-term starter in goal.
