Everton are reportedly interested in Chelsea forward Loic Remy, but would they be better served looking elsewhere for help up front?

Another day and another rumour linking Everton to a forward. This time it’s Loic Remy.

As reported by Sky Sports, Remy is set to leave Chelsea this summer. And if he does, Everton are apparently interested in signing him.

As things stand, the 30-year-old will fly to China this week, as part of Chelsea’s pre-season programme. However, if the club are able to sign a new centre forward, he will be allowed to leave.

The question is, does Remy really fit the criteria of what Ronald Koeman needs, to help boost the forward line? If the last couple of seasons are any indication, then not really, as he has struggled to find playing time.

More from Transfer Rumors

During the 2015/16 campaign, the product of Lyon’s youth academy made 20 total appearances for Chelsea, notching just three goals along the way. Last season was even worse, as he was loaned to Crystal Palace, but only played eight times and failed to score even once.

In fairness to Remy, part of the reason for his lack of opportunities in recent years, is due to battling with several injuries. Previously, he had been more productive with Nice, Marseille and Queens Park Rangers, which is what prompted Chelsea to sign him in the first place.

From the French international’s point of view, he would prefer to remain in southwest London. This desire was on display at the weekend in a friendly at the Pensioners’ training ground, when he scored twice in a 8-2 win over Fulham.

Unfortunately for Remy, even if he remains healthy, opportunities to play in the first team will be limited at Chelsea. As such, Everton are waiting in the wings to sign him, although, according to Sky Sports, they will face stiff competition from Southampton and his former team, Marseille.

In truth, the Blues would be better served looking elsewhere to boost their forward line, as Remy will probably never fulfill the potential analysts raved about when he was younger. Regardless, we will keep an eye on this storyline and see how it plays out in the coming weeks.
