Everton have reportedly made a loan offer for Moussa Sissoko, but they shouldn’t waste their time with the French international.

They often say if someone rejects you once, it’s probably not best to make a second approach. Everton apparently don’t agree with this philosophy, at least if the latest speculation is anything to go by.

According to a report from Rhod Cannori of the International Business Times, Everton have made a loan offer for Moussa Sissoko. That would be the same player who turned down the Blues last season, instead deciding to sign for Tottenham Hotspur.

At the time, Sissoko asked why he should sign for Everton, when Spurs were a bigger club. This followed a report he switched off his phone, to avoid calls from Ronald Koeman.

That alone, makes you question why the Toffees would even contemplate making another bid for the 27-year-old? However, we appreciate this shouldn’t be the only factor in dismissing someone, especially if they have the talent to help your team.

(In addition, there’s no issue with calling Spurs bigger, having been the more consistent team in recent seasons. In addition, despite Everton’s superior advantage in league titles, Tottenham have won more trophies overall in their history.)

In that respect, we know Sissoko has pace and excellent skills, as well as extensive experience at the highest level. However, he has a reputation for being inconsistent and not always displaying the best of attitudes.

Additionally, the French international was accused of not working hard enough in training last season. Spurs’ manager Mauricio Pochettino was unimpressed and by the end of the campaign, the midfielder had only made eight starts in the Premier League.

When you consider all the available information, it really does seem the Blues should stay away from Sissoko. However — assuming the report is true — we respect the fact Koeman is in a much better position to know what’s best for his team.

Further, it would be intriguing to know how this potential addition could impact Ross Barkley’s future. Spurs want to sign Barkley, but are not prepared to meet the £50 million asking price – maybe Sissoko can be used as a bargaining tool in helping resolve the matter.
