Blaise Matuidi would be a major coup for Everton, but how likely is it for the Paris Saint-Germain star to end up moving to Merseyside?

It seems Everton‘s ambition has no limits – at least that appears to be the case, given the latest player they have been linked to. As per a report from Mark Lawless of Click Liverpool, the Blues have entered the hunt for Blaise Matuidi.

Matuidi has spent the last six seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, where he has played a major role in their success. In total, he has won 15 trophies there, including four league titles.

However, Lawless writes the 30-year-old has been told he is free to leave the French side this summer, with just 12 months remaining on his current contract. This seems somewhat surprising, considering how integral he has been to the club, but this decision has been influenced by failed discussions regarding a new deal.

As a result, Manchester United and Manchester City have emerged as two clubs interested in signing Matuidi. And according to French daily sports newspaper L’Equipe, Everton have now thrown their hat into the ring.

Undoubtedly, signing the 2015 French Player of the Year would represent a major coup for the Blues. He is renowned for being a fierce tackler, with excellent defensive attributes.

In addition, Matuidi has a work rate which rivals Wayne Rooney, as well as superior footballing intelligence. With all this said though, what are the chances of Everton actually persuading him to join their revolution?

We know the Blues can meet — and surpass — the reported £18 million asking price. However, the main area they can beat United and City, is their ability to offer more first team football.

Whether this proves to be of any help, remains to be seen. Regardless, you cannot blame Everton for attempting to bring in Matuidi, who has also succeeded at the very highest level, with 58 appearances and eight goals for the French national team.
