Everton can do better than Stefano Okaka, can’t they?!
By Paul Taylor
Everton have been linked with a loan move for Stefano Okaka, but is this really as good as it’s going to get, if they are to sign a striker before the close of the transfer window?
Deadline day has finally arrived and Everton still haven’t found the additional striker they urgently need. As such, with the clock ticking towards 11:00 pm BST, expect a desperate scramble to find someone.
Of course, one potential issue with desperately racing against the clock, is the propensity to make rash decisions. Which may explain one of the targets the Blues have been linked to.
As reported by the Mirror‘s Darren Witcoop, Everton are considering making a move for Watford’s Stefano Okaka. To say this would be a shocking addition, would be somewhat of an understatement.
Witcoop goes on to write Okaka would only be signed on a loan deal. Still, it is fair to ask if this is really the best Ronald Koeman can do?
In the interest of being objective, you can understand why the striker would have caught Koeman’s attention, after he scored twice against the Blues last season. However, he finished the 2016/17 campaign with just four goals in 19 appearances.

In some respects, Okaka is a conundrum, somewhere between untapped potential and wasted talent. This would at least start to explain why he scored in Watford’s first game this season, but hasn’t seen any action since.
Ideally, Everton need to find someone along the lines of Romelu Lukaku, i.e. a player who can score 20+ goals per season. Okaka has never even managed this once.
In fact, the 28-year-old has only ever reached double figures once. However — for what it’s worth — he achieved this just two seasons ago, when he scored 17 times for Anderlecht.
Overall, Okaka is a career journeyman, who can’t even play regularly for Watford. These are not criticisms, just facts – surely Everton can do better……can’t they?!
