Claims that Everton only offered around £2.8 million to take Mexican international Raul Jimenez on loan, just don’t add up.
It’s bad enough Everton are having to deal with the disappointment of being unable to find another striker before the end of the summer transfer window. Now, they’ve got to contend with a report which is best described as insulting.
As per Lucas Sposito of Sports Witness, the Portuguese media are alleging the Blues made an offer of around £2.8 million for Raul Jimenez. Originally reported by A Bola, it is claimed Everton only wanted to take him on a year’s loan.
However, these claims don’t really make much sense, especially how much the bid was apparently for. For a start, Benfica had previously stated they wanted £50 million for Jimenez.
In addition, there were reports indicating Benfica had already turned down an offer of around £44 million, from an unknown club in China. However, even if this isn’t the case, Everton’s apparent offer of £2.8 million still doesn’t add up.

Apart from the fact such an offer would be considered extremely insulting, why would the Blues intentionally sabotage themselves? From everything we’ve read during the last couple of months, most people know how desperate they were to add another striker.
Even if it’s true Everton were the only club to make a bid for Jimenez — and we doubt this — it’s tough to believe they would push their luck so much. Let’s be honest, it’s not as if they’ve been shy about flashing the cash around lately.
Earlier reports claim the Blues offered anywhere between £25-39 million for Jimenez, which makes a lot more sense. Last time we checked, he’s an international player with 54 appearances and 12 goals on his resume for Mexico.
Overall, it’s probably best to dismiss the report by A Bola. However, if they wish to provide actual evidence to back up their claim, we’re more than happy to reconsider our position.
