It seems like the longest of long shots, but Everton are keeping an eye on Edinson Cavani, after his row with new PSG teammate Neymar.

Everton being linked with a forward/striker is nothing new. It happened regularly during the summer transfer window and will continue to be the case, as this season progresses.

However, even we’ll admit the latest speculation involving the Blues is extremely unlikely to come to fruition. As reported by the Daily Mail‘s David Kent, they are apparently interested in Edinson Cavani.

Now of course, you could ask who isn’t interested in the PSG star? He is one of the top players in the game, who last season scored a sensational 49 goals in 50 total appearances.

Similarly, Cavani is off to another spectacular start in 2017/18, with nine goals in eight games. However, it seems there may be trouble in paradise, aka Paris.

More specifically, Cavani was involved in a public argument with new teammate Neymar last weekend, during a game versus Lyon. The two stars clashed over who should take set pieces during the 2-0 win.

As a result, speculation is rife, with claims of a dressing room rift and Neymar apparently demanding PSG sell his teammate. However, even though we don’t necessarily believe the second rumour, it is still conceivable Cavani could be on his way out.

The question is, if the Uruguayan striker does leave PSG, what are the chances of Everton actually signing him? If we’re honest, it’s not very likely, especially when you consider the competition.

The Mail‘s Kent writes that Chelsea and Napoli are also interested in Cavani, with both arguably having better claims. Chelsea are a title contender who can offer Champions League football, while the former Napoli player has apparently often expressed his desire to return to Italy.

In addition, there are Cavani’s wages to consider. In the last year of his contract with PSG, he takes home around £120,000 per week, after tax.

If Everton do have a genuine interest in signing Cavani, we don’t blame them for making inquiries. We just don’t see it materialising into anything, not that we would have any issue with being proven wrong.
