New speculation claims Everton will not pursue Olivier Giroud in January, but it’s all about reading the fine print, or in this case, the actual report.

Last week, we commented on a report by The Mirror‘s Neil Moxley, which claimed Everton would not only return for Olivier Giroud in January, but this time would “get their man”. We essentially wrote that it wasn’t so clear cut and the odds were still against the Blues actually signing the French international.

Well, now another report has come out, which effectively goes entirely against Moxley’s article. The new speculation comes courtesy of the Daily Star‘s James Benson, with the claim that Everton won’t pursue a deal for Giroud.

However, it’s only when you read through the entire article that you find the headline can be perceived as slightly misleading. Benson goes on to writes the Blues are just keeping their options open and have no set targets in mind at this stage, with three months still to go before the transfer window reopens.

In other words, what the Daily Star really mean is Everton won’t be pursuing a deal for Giroud as of right now. However, they will make a definitive decision sometime between now and January.

So what’s the truth in all of this? What the Toffees actually do, when it comes down to solving their striker crisis?

If we just consider the two headlines of the recent contrasting reports surrounding Giroud, it’s probably most sensible to consider the truth is somewhere in the middle. In that respect, our best educated guess is Everton will probably make a bid for him in January, while considering other options.

In reality, this is the best approach to take anyway. As we’ve previously written, there are factors outside Everton’s control, which will influence any decision by the Arsenal striker (and indeed his club).

This includes doing whatever it takes to make/keep the family happy. If Giroud’s wife doesn’t want to move to Merseyside it’s not going to happen, especially considering his previous alleged conduct off the pitch.

Regardless, the Blues will have to make do with what they currently have available. Sandro Ramirez has done little so far and we still don’t know about Oumar Niasse, but at least Dominic Calvert-Lewin is playing well and shown glimpses of his undoubted talent.
