As speculation intensifies about Ademola Lookman’s future with Everton, the Gunners are reportedly targeting a move for the young forward.

Everton need help up front, as perfectly illustrated by just four goals in seven league games. With this in mind, it makes you wonder why Ademola Lookman has not been given more opportunities to show what he can do?

So far, Lookman has only appeared in one competitive game this season. And even that was just a 17 minute cameo appearance in the League Cup.

Everton paid an unconfirmed fee of £11 million (including add-ons) for the highly rated youngster. However, after scoring against Manchester City with virtually his first shot for the club, opportunities have been limited.

Now, in fairness to Ronald Koeman, if could be just a case of wanting to bring Lookman along slowly. In addition, it is worth noting we’re still (relatively speaking) early in the 2017/18 season.

However, at some point soon, you imagine Koeman will have to let the 19-year-old off the leash. Especially if the Blues continue to struggle to score goals.

Regardless, Lookman’s lack of playing time hasn’t deterred other clubs from keeping an eye on him. As we reported recently, Tottenham Hotspur will consider making a move for him in January, especially if he continues to get frozen out at Everton.

Now, you can add Spurs’ North London rivals to the list of teams interested in the Wandsworth-born player. As reported by Alex Wood of the Daily Star, Arsenal are also plotting a raid for him.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Wood writes that Arsene Wenger has been tipped off that Lookman might fancy a return to London. This is not the first time the Gunners boss has shown an interest, previously losing out to Everton, who offered a more lucrative deal.

It has also been hinted that Lookman’s agent has close links with the Arsenal front office. To be honest though, any agent worth their salt should have contacts within the Premier League.

Regardless, Everton are — theoretically at least — operating from a position of strength. The former Charlton Athletic player is less than 12 months into his four and a half year deal.

As such, even if the Blues are tempted to allow Lookman to leave, it won’t come cheap. Wood suggests it will take at least £15 million, to persuade Koeman to let him go back to London.

First things first though, there are still three months to go until the transfer window reopens. Between now and January, it might be a good idea for Everton to give Lookman some more opportunities, to see what he’s capable of and help them decide what to do.
