Given the need for help in attack, how audacious would it be for Everton to make a move for Daniel Sturridge when the transfer window reopens?

Everton need more goals; this much we know. But how far would you be willing to go, in order to rectify this issue?

For example, would you be prepared for the Blues to approach their city rivals for the solution? Hold on, hold on; before you protest too much, at least hear us out.

What if it was a player who has a strike rate of one goal every two games for Liverpool? What if it’s a player who has performed well at international level? (At least as much as you can do, when you play for England.)

And finally, what if it was a player who has excellent pace, can play in several positions up front and is still only 28-years-old? Ladies and Gentlemen, we offer you Daniel Sturridge!

Now before we go any further, let’s make a point of give the credit for this where it is due. More to the point, the idea originates from Danny Wright of Football Insider 24/7.

Now of course, we’re not suggesting it would be particularly straightforward for Everton to sign Sturridge. Apart from the fact he plays for their arch rivals, it probably wouldn’t come cheap. (Not that money is a major issue for the Blues, at least theoretically.)

However, there are a couple of reasons why making a move for the product of Manchester City’s academy, isn’t quite as audacious as you might think. The first relates to his opportunities at Anfield.

For whatever reason, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp does not see Sturridge as part of his ideal starting XI. For example, he only started seven of the 20 league appearances he made last season.

The second reason inquiring about the Birmingham-born player may not be such a stretch, relates to speculation from the summer. As Wright notes, the Newcastle Chronicle reported Liverpool were offering him to other clubs, in an attempt to thin out their top-heavy squad.

Overall, it still seems unlikely Sturridge would ever end up at Everton. Regardless, there are lots of worse players they could target and at the very least, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to make an offer in January.
