Everton have reportedly lined up former Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri to take over from Ronald Koeman, if they decide to change managers.
It’s bad enough that Ronald Koeman apparently has until the end of October to save his job. Now it seems Everton already know who his replacement will be.
At least that’s the case, according to The Express. Liam Spence writes that Everton have lined up Walter Mazzarri to take over as manager.
Evertonians are likely familiar with Mazzarri, who was in charge of Watford last season. However, even though he helped the Hornets avoid relegation, the front office decided against bringing him back for the 2017/18 campaign.
The claim was originally reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. However, as often seems to be the case with the Blues, bringing the 56-year-old in wouldn’t be without complications.

Di Marzio claims Mazzarri may decide against joining Everton right away, if Koeman is sacked. This is because he would apparently prefer to get another job closer to London, when he lives.
With this in mind, and assuming this is all true, is the former midfielder worth waiting for? It depends on your perception of the word success.
Apart from helping Watford avoid the drop, most of Mazzarri’s managerial experience has come in Italy, including stops at Sampdoria and Inter Milan. His best spell came with Napoli, winning the Coppa Italia and helping them qualify for the Champions League for the first time.
If we’re honest, we’re not convinced Mazzarri is the best man for the job. And this is before you even consider he may not be viewing Everton as his preferred option.
First things first though, let’s see if Komean can save his managerial career on Merseyside, beginning with Brighton Hove Albion on Sunday. You almost don’t want to contemplate how bad the Blues’ position will be, if Farhad Moshiri and company do sack the Dutchman at the end of this month.
