Everton will reportedly make a £31 million bid for Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho, but they will apparently be wasting their time.

Everton have been linked with a lot of forwards recently. This is hardly surprising, given their struggles scoring goals this season.

However, the Blues aren’t entirely obsessed with finding someone to resolve their issues up front. They are still also looking for ways to improve the squad in general.

As reported by the Daily Mail‘s Joe Strange, the Toffees are preparing to make a £31 million bid for William Carvalho. However, any move is considered ambitious at best.

Apparently, as far as Sporting Lisbon are concerned, Carvalho is not for sale. Regardless, as originally reported by Portuguese newspaper Record, the Blues are refusing to give up on him.

Club directors have already been to watch the Portuguese international in action this season. As per Strange, Ronald Koeman considers him as an ideal player for his squad.

More from Transfer Rumors

Certainly, you can understand why Koeman is a fan of Carvalho, who is a mainstay in the Sporting Lisbon team. He has also had success at the highest level, having been part of the Portugal team which won Euro 2016.

The defensive midfielder would be an interesting addition, considering the options the Blues already have in the position. However, with speculation surrounding James McCarthy’s future with the club, this could alleviate any potential logjam.

West Ham United were apparently keen to sign Carvalho during the summer, but Record claim Everton are now the front-runners. Whether this means they are actually successful in their pursuit, is another matter entirely.
