The boardroom is reportedly split on who should be the next Everton manager, which theoretically improves David Unsworth’s chances of getting the job.
Sean Dyche is the bookies favourite. No, it’s Sam Allardyce. Actually, Farahd Moshiri would prefer Diego Simeone take over as the next Everton manager. And so the guessing game goes on…
The fact this saga is still continuing more than two weeks after Ronald Koeman was sacked, hints at the indecision and inability to find someone for the job. As a result, it could play into David Unsworth’s hands.
It’s no secret Unsworth would love to have the job permanently. And this may well become a reality, the longer the situation drags on.
At least that’s the possibility, according to the Mirror. As David Anderson and John Cross write, the top brass are split on who should get the job.
As we reported earlier this week, majority shareholder Moshiri ideally wants Simeone to get the gig. However, as far as we’re concerned, this has next to no chance of happening.
With this in mind, Moshiri’s plan B is to offer a contract to Allardyce for the remainder of this season. Meanwhile, chairman Bill Kenwright is less than enthralled by the idea, instead preferring for Unsworth to carry on.

Interestingly, Moshiri’s approach towards Allardyce may play into Kenwright’s and Unsworth’s hands. The former England manger is apparently reluctant to sign a short-term deal, insisting he prefers a lengthy contract. (Which is entirely understandable.)
Part of the reason Kenwright wants Unsworth to carry on, is due to the former defender’s passion for and commitment towards the club. And even though he has only won one of his four games in charge, it is clear he has installed these values back into the players.
Of course, you can appreciate why Everton would want someone of the calibre of Simeone to take over for the long term. Similarly, as per Anderson and Cross, it would explain the approach for Carlo Ancelotti, although he was quick to rule himself out.
What we do know, is the Blues need to make a decision soon, as they look to continue dragging themselves away from the relegation zone. It will be interesting to see if Unsworth is still in charge when they play their next game against Crystal Palace, a week on Saturday.
