If Everton decide to bring in Sam Allardyce as their new manager, it will reportedly have major implications for the coaching staff.
If you’re an advocate for Sam Allardyce getting the Everton manager’s job, how much do you really want him to get it? More specifically, what are you willing for the Blues to sacrifice, in order to bring him in?
Giving the former England manager a boatload of money is one thing – Everton can certainly afford it. However, what if his appointment means potentially losing two of the club’s more loyal members of staff?
As per Neil Moxley of the Mirror, David Unsworth and Joe Royle are set to be axed, if Allardyce comes to Goodison Park. The duo have been in caretaker roles ever since Ronald Koeman was sacked.
Allardyce will reportedly bring in former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare as his assistant, if he takes over as manager. There will also apparently be a role for director of football Steve Walsh, to return to a position on the bench.
Moxley goes on to write that Allardyce will essentially revamp the backroom staff and bring in his own people. Essentially, there would unlikely be any room for Unsworth or Royle.
Of course, this is all speculation at this point. In that respect, I’m not entirely convinced Allardyce would get rid of the duo.
The 63-year-old has made some high profile mistakes over the years. However, would he really risk alienating Evertonians right off the bat, by getting rid of two Everton favourites?

Not that this is just about showing compassion and bowing to any perceived pressure. Unsworth has done wonders with the Everton Under-23 side, winning the inaugural Premier League 2 title and once again making a genuine challenge this season.
Meanwhile, Royle has also been a key element in the youth setup, which is one of the very best in the country. As the saying goes, why fix it if it isn’t broken?
Now there is the possibility the duo themselves may want to leave, rather than being part of any new regime. For example, after being in charge of the Everton senior side for four games, Unsworth may harbour ambitions of becoming a manager for a first team elsewhere.
Regardless, if Allardyce is a smart man, he would do well to keep Unsworth and Royle around. Their love for and understanding of the club is an invaluable source, which he would do well to tap into.
