Morgan Schneiderlin aims to break back into the Everton first team after poor form and a training ground bust-up with David Unsworth. Belgian winger Kevin Mirallas is keen to leave Merseyside.

It is likely Everton will cut a lot of weight this summer. The Blues have an ageing squad, and many players simply aren’t performing. Consequently, the senior team needs revitalising from top to bottom.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Kevin Mirallas put themselves at the top of the exit list, after a training ground bust-up with David Unsworth and Duncan Ferguson in November. As reported by David Prentice in the Liverpool Echo:

"The pair [Schneiderlin & Mirallas] left Finch Farm on Saturday [November 4] after a session being hosted by first team coach Duncan Ferguson. Both players were showing a perceived lack of commitment and were told by the coach that if they were not going to bother they should both go back inside."

Both promptly left first-team training, and haven’t played consistently since. This is despite a managerial change and a steady stream of important Premier League match-ups.

Schneiderlin however, wants to win back his place in the team. According to Sky Sports, the French midfielder denied the Finch Farm incident and said:

"“I want to turn the page. It was not nice for me to see that but it is part of football and I have to deal with it. I want to prove (myself) in every game.”"

This is good news for Everton fans. Schneiderlin made a solid start to his career on Merseyside, and has the potential to be a useful senior pro as the Blues transition. His desire to work to regain his first team place should be credited.

There is no update on Mirallas however, and the Belgian winger has probably had enough.

Mirallas has often talked about moving onto pastures new, and revealed to Sky Sports that he wanted a move to Greece on deadline day this season. If he moves in January, he could well stay in England however, with reported interest from West Ham. According to the Daily Mirror, David Moyes is looking at the winger – although a fee has not been estimated.

Overall, Mirallas has had a decent career at Everton, although he has struggled to play consistently in recent seasons. He was upstaged by Ademola Lookman and Nikola Vlašić against Apollon Limassol last week, and his time seems to be up. Hopefully he can have a successful career elsewhere.

Frankly, Everton need players who are proud to wear the royal blue shirt, and committed in each game they play. Schneiderlin looks to have the steel to meet this criteria. Mirallas does not. Therefore, a move would be best for everyone.
