Batshuayi could be new Lukaku for Everton

Should Everton consider making a move for Michy Batshuayi in this summer’s transfer window and could he be the new Lukaku?

We’ve mentioned a lot of players that Everton might think of casting an eye over in this summer’s transfer window.

One player I’ve flagged up before is the Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

I don’t think he ever got a real chance at Stamford Bridge and I wanted Everton to make a move for him in January.

In the end he went on loan to Germany. Since his move to the Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, he has thrived.

And the Evening Standard claims he is open-minded about where he will go after the World Cup.

In ten matches he has scored seven goals a very healthy return.

I always felt he might be another Romelu Lukaku, a player who could develop and mature given the right club and a manger with the commitment to play him.

Like Lukaku he’s a little rough around the edges but he is a big powerful forward with a fine goal return. In fact Batshuayi scored goals in every competition he played in this past season.

That’s impressive and Batshuayi seems a very consistent performer in front of goal. Those stats also indicate that he has a very good instinct and awareness in front of goal, regardless of the opposition.

These are all things that Everton have sorely lacked since the departure of Lukaku.

When Everton bought Lukaku, he was probably even less well-rounded a player than Batshuayi is now. He had enjoyed a steady season on loan at Goodison but was still very much a work in progress.

Several things might count against Batshuayi joining the Toffees.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

One is the concept that new Director of Football Marcel Brands and the manager he brings in have for how the Blues should set out to play next season.

They might have a football philosophy that Batshuayi is not particularly suited to, although he seems very adaptable playing for several different teams and still scoring goals regardless.

There is also the ridiculous fee that Chelsea are apparently quoting for him of around £50 million.

And finally if as seems likely Chelsea bring in yet another new manager themselves, that new man might see a place for the Belgian in his plans.

Next: Other possible Everton managers?

Once again all this of course depends on the final outcome of the Blues’ ongoing search for a new coach to complete the re-construction of the club.
