While the media seem convinced that Marco Silva will be finally named Everton manager this week, lets look again at some more players that Silva or whoever takes the job should consider.

Moving onto the Italian League, one other forward that Everton could take a closer look at is the Lazio attacking midfielder Luis Alberto.

The Spanish player has enjoyed a superb season with the Rome club as they grabbed a European place. He scored 12 goals and contributed an outstanding 19 assists.

He also has excellent passing accuracy having completed 80% of his attempted passes.

Alberto is another versatile forward able to play in several positions from a deep-lying role to playing as a central striker.

We’ve looked at a lot of players over the past few weeks and Alberto is another talented and creative footballer, just the type of player Everton need.

It may be that he would want to play in that ‘number 10’ position creating more potential selection problems with the returning Gylfi Sigurdsson.

But unless Everton decided on a strategy of going for a few big name targets, I think the Blues need to look at bringing in as many creative and goal-scoring options as possible.

He’s a player who would probably also be available at a more reasonable price than more high-profile stars.

Another attacking midfielder who has enjoyed a fine campaign in Italy is the Atalanta player Alejandro Gomez.

The midfielder contributed goals and plenty of assists, reaching double-figures in that category. One thing that might count against him though is his age as he’s 30.

Argentinian Gomez has been a pivotal player for the less fashionable side this past season. Everton fans might well remember him as a player in Atalanta’s Europa League performances against the Blues right at the start of the season.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

In particular Atalanta delivered one of Everton’s most humiliating defeats of last season when they thrashed the Blues 5-1 at Goodison Park.

A team-mate of Gomez’s is the Slovenian player Josep Illicic. He is another 30 year-old player who has starred for Atalanta this season.

Illicic reached double figures in goals and assists and is another player with a fine passing accuracy rating of over 80%.

He’s also very strong right across the board with very few weaknesses. And again he would probably be very affordable in today’s inflated transfer market.

While it’s certainly true that Everton should concentrate on finding quality young players to build for the long-term, there is no harm in having a few more experienced heads around to guide and help develop these youngsters.

Next: Blues to seal Silva deal this week?

This might be especially useful if the Blue’s most high-profile veteran player Wayne Rooney leaves for the MLS, as seems increasingly likely.
