Everton are ready to offer Barcelona £21 million for the Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina to revive a transfer deal according to reports today on Goal.com.

If so this might be enough for Everton to prise the giant defender away from Camp Nou and bring him to Goodison Park.

As we previously said this was a recent transfer rumour that had apparently died almost as soon as it surfaced when it appeared Mina wasn’t prepared to move and wanted to stay and fight for his place at Barcelona.

But now the website says Barcelona are expected to bring in another defender and so the Colombian would effectively be fourth choice. That means a deal with Everton could possibly be back on.

I think it’s fair to say he would certainly get plenty of playing time at Everton given the fact that Michael Keane’s current centre-back partner, is 35-year-old Phil Jagielka.

And with the recent transfer of Ramiro Funes-Mori to Villarreal and the likely departure of Ashley Williams, the Blues will certainly need more quality there.

Mina has been a literally huge presence in the World Cup and despite Colombia’s defeat to England in the last 16, he has certainly made an impression with his performances.

He underlined his physical threat in the game against England and that presence and ability in the air at set-pieces would add to Everton’s attacking options as well.

Central defence is one of several priority areas that the Toffees need to strengthen before next season. It’s also becoming increasingly important the Blues start to make a few new signings as the transfer window clock ticks on.

As other clubs have moved to improve their squads the Toffees have been noticeably lacking as yet in such activity.

Another transfer story that appeared to have gone off the boil has also been revived with Portuguese website Record.pt claiming that Everton are trying to pip Real Betis to the signing of William Carvalho.

Cavalho is a player that Marco Silva rates and that he has been looking at for quite a while if past reports are to be believed.

I don’t think another essentially defensive player is really the Blues most pressing midfield need.

But he is well-regarded and would add addition physicality and drive to the team as well as being effective at keeping possession.

Once again let’s see if the Toffees can get any of these proposed deals over the line soon and start making the improvements to the squad that the Blues certainly need.
