Toffees misfit could end his Goodison nightmare with transfer to Bundesliga club

Davy Klaassen’s Everton nightmare may soon be at an end as reports claim that a transfer to Werder Bremen is in the offing.

The Netherlands international has endured a terrible 12 months at Goodison Park as he struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Klaassen has now been linked with a move away by German news outlet Bild, who state that a €15m (£13m) deal is in place to sell him to Bremen after “weeks of tough talks”.

The 25-year-old’s future on Merseyside has been a subject of hot debate for six months, with clubs in his homeland and Turkey also thought to be interested in his signature.

It might be that Klaassen wings his way back to mainland Europe, but to join the Bundesliga club instead.

Bremen are on the lookout for a new centre midfielder after they sold Thomas Delaney to rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Klaassen is a different type of player to the Danish international, but a fresh start is needed for him to reignite his professional career.

Klaassen joined Everton for £24m last summer and looked to be a new cult hero on the Goodison terraces due to his playmaking abilities and title success in Holland with Ajax.

However, he struggled to live with the fast-paced nature of English football and fell out-of-favour just three months after his arrival.

None of Ronald Koeman, David Unsworth or Sam Allardyce could get the best out of him in training or in brief run outs in matches.

He made just 16 appearances in all competitions for the Blues last term and hasn’t set the world alight in pre-season under new boss Marco Silva.

Klaassen was an unused substitute against Porto on Sunday evening, and it seems that Silva has made his mind up over whether he intends to keep the midfielder at the club.

Klaassen is believed to have been offered a €3.5m-a-year contract by Bremen – equivalent to £3m-per-season – and has time to mull over the offer before deciding where his future lies.
