Reports have emerged that suggest Everton are keen on bringing Italian midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini in when the summer transfer window opens.

Everton are on the search for players that can help them in the attacking third and Roma’s flexible central midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini is reportedly a potential candidate.

23-year-old Pellegrini has been a mainstay of the AS Roma first-team since returning to the club after a two-year spell with Sassuolo.

The Italian international, capped 12 times for the Azzurri, originally joined Roma as a boy in 2005, spending ten years working through their youth system before making a brief first-team debut in a 1-0 away win over Cesena back in March 2015.

Unable to break into the first-team on a regular basis, Pellegrini joined Sassuolo that summer for a reported transfer fee of €1.25 million where he would become a regular feature.

In 47 league matches for the Serie A club, Pellegrini scored nine goals and added a further seven assists, impressive numbers for a central midfielder.

Having impressed since leaving the Italian capital, Roma opted to exercise a buy-back option they had on the young midfielder, seeing him return to the club for €10 million, being handed the coveted #7 shirt in the process.

Since returning to the club, Pellegrini has been used in a more advanced role, taking advantage of his strong link-up play and keen ability to cross the ball, which he has done an impressive 315 times despite typically playing more centrally.

He has featured in 72 league matches since his return transfer, scoring seven goals and providing a further 13 assists while being a strong distributor of the ball, completed over 75% of all pass attempts.

For Everton, Pellegrini would be a key addition that would be able to work higher up and or deeper on the pitch depending on what the club needs him to do, being a great box-to-box option that can affect play in the final third.

He would provide options behind the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson that would be able to see transitions and attacking movements work much smoother, potentially becoming a nice compliment to Andre Gomes.

While it is all still likely to be speculation, it is positive to see Everton linked with players of Pellegrini’s quality, with manager Carlo Ancelotti clearly a big draw for players of a higher calibre, something that should enthuse fans of the club.
