Everton leapfrog ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in Thiago Silva race

Everton have reportedly opened contract talks with Thiago Silva.

PSG Sporting director Leonardo recently revealed in an interview with French publication Le Journal de Dimanche that their association with Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva was coming to an end as the club will not renew the out of contract players at the end of the season.

"The idea is to continue playing with them until the end of August. It was a very difficult decision to make; these are players who have marked the history of the club …Their stories were so beautiful. But yes, we are coming to the end. We had to make a logical decision, economically speaking and with regard to the generation that is coming through. (via ESPN)"

With the confirmation from PSG that they won’t be renewing Thiago Silva’s contract, Everton have been the quickest to react and have opened the talks over a potential free transfer, as per Sportbible. They have gained a major advantage over the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal and with Carlo Ancelotti on the negotiations bench; the talks would have been seamless. The Everton manager had managed Silva at PSG and the Pupil and the master formed a strong bond in Paris.

The Brazilian who earned the reputation of being a classy and skilful defender at Fluminense has closed the door to a return to Brazil. This has further boosted the Everton board’s confidence of landing the veteran defender.

The 35 year old has made it clear that he still wants to continue adding accolades to his glorious career by remaining in Europe. The Toffees are in a rebuilding phase and a signing like Silva can help them catapult in their pursuit for European Football. There are reports that state that Jose Mourinho has asked the Tottenham Hotspur board to sign the Brazilian. With Carlo Ancelotti being a pivotal factor, Everton can say that they have an upper hand over their rivals. He may not be a long term option but the wealth of experience he will bring to Goodison Park will be huge.
