Despite Yerry Mina return, Everton defence may remain unchanged

Left back: Lucas Digne

Leighton Baines signed a short term contract extension while a one year deal still remains on the table. The veteran made a cameo appearance against the Canaries but is not expected to pip Lucas Digne in the starting lineup against the Foxes. The 26 year old left back provided the assist to Michael Keane’s goal against Norwich and looks in good nick.

Left Centre back: Mason Holgate

Without a doubt he’s the best player for Everton currently. He looks on a different level and the trust Ancelotti has shown in the 23 year old has seen his confidence catapult massively. If the Merseysiders were successful in keeping two clean sheets out of two games, Holgate deserves immense credit for the feat.

Right centre back: Michael Keane

Even though Yerry Mina is fit and raring to go, Ancelotti won’t be willing to alter the winning combination and make changes in the defence that has proven to be so successful since the restart. Keane had a wonderful week, becoming a father, scoring the winner at Carrow Road so his morale will be booming over the roof. Also it must be kept in mind that Mina has just returned to fitness and from the past track record of Mina falling prey to relapse injuries, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Right back: Seamus Coleman

The captain was top notch against Liverpool and single handedly blocked the Reds attack from time to time. Despite being 31, he is showing no signs of slowing down but news broke out that Marcel Brands is planning for future and is keen to have Ola Aina as Coleman’s successor. It will be an interesting to see a battle between Harvey Barnes and Coleman should the Englishman start.
