Everton have located Yerry Mina replacement in form of Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi.
On a lazy Sunday where UK citizens enjoy their first weekend out after government lockdown relaxations and US citizens relish the 4th of July weekend, Everton fans were given somewhat of a shock when reports emerged that Yerry Mina was a wanted man in La Liga.
According to the Daily Mail, Yerry Mina has emerged as a shock target for La Liga giants Valencia. In fact, it is not just a flying interest, Los Murcelagos could actually launch a £15 million offer for the Colombian centre back who has had a mixed time in England.
Injuries have hampered his progress at Goodison Park, forcing him to never break into the team as a regular first choice centre back. Currently, Ancelotti prefers Mason Holgate and Michael Keane as the first choice centre back pairing and the duo is gelling reasonably well.
With Yerry Mina’s exit talks surfacing, Everton might need to focus on strengthening their defence more than ever. With no progress on Thiago Silva or Jean-Clair Todibo so far, Marcel Brands must concentrate on other options or the Toffees may be left without proper resources at the back come next season.
As per the Mirror (via The Boot Room), Everton are monitoring Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi. There are obvious other options like Kurt Zouma but there’s a major motivation behind Everton feeling optimistic about Senesi.
The Argentine who joined the Dutch side from San Lorenzo last summer has quickly acclimatized himself to European football surroundings and Feyenoord are aware of the possibility of losing the 23 year old. To put all transfer doubts to bed, De Trots van Zuid were hoping to tie Senesi to a new deal. However, Marcos Senesi is stalling over a new contract as contract negotiations have come to a dead end.
Even though the Argentine is contracted in the Netherlands till 2023, the report adds that Senesi is eyeing a move to a superior league. There are whispers that he’ll be made available for a fee of £18 million and amid interest from Getafe, Sevilla and Atalanta, Everton are said to be the favorites to strike a deal.
It is extremely important for the Toffees to bolster their defence and Marcos Senesi is a good shout. Based on current form and team selection, it is obvious that Ancelotti will prefer Holgate and Keane as first choice centre backs but Senesi provides a reliable back up. With the whole Mina exit talks evolving, Marcos Senesi should be the player Marcel Brands must target.
He can prove to be a vital signing and judging on his San Lorenzo days, one can say that he has quality and potential to make it big in England. He is an excellent ball player and very comfortable in spraying long balls. His strong left foot and decent pace allows him to even supplement at the left back position.
All in all, he could not only be a Yerry Mina replacement but could do the job far better than the Colombian should he be given the right council. And under Carlo Ancelotti’s wing, you can bet on Marcos Senesi learning and improving his prowess.
Will Marcos Senesi prove to be a good fit for the Toffees if they manage to sign him?
