Everton target Weston McKennie, a USMNT international, has reiterated his desire to leave Schalke 04.
Everton have been aggressively weighing their midfield options this summer. From Allan to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, a host of big names have been linked. Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie also is a sizeable option for the Toffees. The USMNT star is likely to leave the German team this summer.
The 21 year old is edging closer to a Schalke exit and Premier League may be his likely destination. Weston McKennie is a wanted name across the English Top Flight but Everton and Southampton are said be lead the chase. With Hojbjerg to Tottenham Hotspur almost done, the Saints are in the market finding a replacement.
The Merseysiders did miss out on the Danish ace but are more alert and proactive to sign McKennie from Schalke. According to WAZ German daily (via Inside Futbol), Weston McKennie is leaving no stone unturned to make his desire known of a Schalke exit this summer. The German club haven’t responded to his requests yet but may soon be forced to yield.
A CBS Sports report revealed that Schalke 04 are in some sort of economic turmoil thanks to the Corona Virus pandemic which has forced them to put salary cuts on their players and even make player sales so there is a steady influx of cash. In such a situation, letting the USMNT star leave won’t be a bad decision.

It is true that the 21 year old wants out, so selling a player, even if he is one of their best players, will be the correct decision. Die Knappen won’t like to have a player in the locker room that has the desire to leave. The Bundesliga club can sell the player for a price of around €25 million, which is a pretty handsome amount in today’s market.
Hertha Berlin also remains interested in his services but when Premier League clubs come calling it is very seldom that players don’t listen. Everton can improve their midfield quality by signing the 21 year old who can play in a variety of positions.
Perhaps, Jonjoe Kenny can come into play. Die Knappen are said to be interested in the right back who spent a season on loan with them. The Toffees aren’t very keen to keep Kenny and may use him in a deal. For Schalke, they will get some cash for Weston McKennie and a player in the form of Jonjoe Kenny.
