LONDON, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 13: Allan of Everton is challenged by Pierre-Emile Hoejbjerg of Tottenham Hotspur during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 13, 2020 in London, England. (Photo by Catherine Ivill/Getty Images) /

Allan is a likely starter to add solidity to the midfield.

Midfield:

Central defensive midfielder: Allan

Allan was the man of the match for me. It never looked like he was a new signing, it felt like he had been knit with this set of players for years and was a major road block for opponents in front of the defence. From his Napoli days, Allan is known to have great stamina and will be deployed to give additional support to the midfield and defence. I don’t expect him to play 90 minutes but he will play a significant amount of minutes.

Central midfielder: Tom Davies

Tom Davies got a lot of stick last season for his underwhelming performances. He was never able to accept the double pivot role or the role of anchoring the midfield. His lackluster last year, has surely caused a dip in form and confidence and a game against a fairly easier side will be a catalyst in helping him build his morale back.

We saw with Andre Gomes on the weekend that he seemed to be on top of his game with better players around him. Maybe this will even work on Davies with Allan around.

Central midfielder: Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson was the other player who faced fan rage due to his slump the last term. He played some 20 odd minutes against Spurs and in particular, didn’t do anything wrong but wasn’t spectacular either. Against Salford, he’ll look more comfortable and could be a threat from the midfield. This is his best chance to prove that his creative decline is not permanent.
