After beating Salford City in the previous round of the Carabao Cup, Everton travels to Fleetwood Town for the third round of the EFL Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton is on a roll. Three wins in three games have infused a  sense of optimism among fans that this seasons won’t be a repeat of previous years where the team has failed to achieve the season goals resulting in getting termed as a mediocre team. Carabao Cup presents an opportunity to Ancelotti to try and win a trophy in his first full season as an Everton manager.

Even though it is very early days in the season, the Toffees look a threatening side and if they are able to carry this momentum in every game, Everton might be on for a highly fruitful season. The fans are crying out for a trophy and Carabao Cup could be the silverware that Ancelotti may deliver.

Match Preview. Fleetwood Town v Everton. light

Everton progressed seamlessly to the third round defeating Salford City 3-0. However, the victory did come at a cost as Jarrad Branthwaite succumbed to an injury that will keep him out for a month. The Toffees travel to Fleetwood Town in the third round of the Carabao Cup and the Italian boss is expected to make wholesale changes again to keep the squad fresh and fit. Here is my predicted XI:

Goalkeeper: Joao Virginia

Joao Virginia penned a new four year deal yesterday and is brimming with confidence after a strong start to the campaign. He kept a clean sheet against Salford City and will be hopeful of keeping the goal clean this time around against Fleetwood Town as well.

With Virginia’ extension, there is an almost confirmation that the Portuguese is the second choice behind Jordan Pickford. Jonas Lossl’s future is in doubt and could head the exit door before the end of this transfer window.
