Even though the summer transfer window has only recently closed and it’s still two months until the January one opens, there are still constant rumours linking Everton with new players.

The latest of these stories concerns another Real Madrid star, the Spanish attacker Isco. The Mirror here in the UK are claiming that the Spain international is ready to quit the Spanish capital and link up with Carlo Ancelotti and his former team mate James Rodriguez at Everton.

So would a deal for another Real player who is apparently surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabau, make sense for the Toffees?

Isco has been a stalwart for Los Blancos over recent seasons as the La Liga giants have claimed a succession of major prizes including four Champions League titles in five years.

He is a player who has lined up alongside some of the best players not just of his generation but of all time as he was of course a team mate of Ronaldo’s.

Now though he has joined a group of veteran players that Real boss Zinedine Zidane has seemingly decided no longer have a future at the club, along with Blues star Rodriguez and Gareth Bale who is also back in England at Tottenham this season.

It’s a little surprising that the French coach is so willing to let such quality and experienced footballers leave his club but that seems to be the case.

Certainly the form of Everton’s Colombian forward has been outstanding since he swapped all white for royal blue. He has been a revelation and might be making some at the Bernabau think they made a mistake letting him leave.

The 28-year-old Isco is, at least in theory, at the peak of his powers too and has vast experience having played at the very top in both the club game and international football.

He is a genuinely excellent footballer who possesses great attacking qualities and can operate across the midfield or behind a centre-forward.

That versatility could be invaluable and would give Everton another genuinely top class creative attacker and goal scorer. It would also help with situations like the current one where Richarlison’s absence through suspension is hurting the Blues attacking potential.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Signing him would mean the Toffees needn’t add another centre-forward as Richarlison would be able to fill in there with Isco taking his place.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, this is obviously just paper talk at the moment and I don’t think the Toffees will in fact sign anyone in January.

However, if a player of Isco’s ability is available at a knock down price, which the Mirror claims he would be and he wants to re-join his former Real colleague at Goodison Park, then who knows.

This could be another really good deal for Everton, especially if Marcel Brands can work it in a similar way as he seemed to do with Rodriguez and get him for a snip of a fee, or even for free.

dark. Next. Two 'musts' for Everton tomorrow

Adding a talent like his in January to the already transformed Toffees attack, might be just the boost the Blues need to consolidate their improvement and turn it into something tangible by the end of the season.
