Everton may fail to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik with AS Roma said to be the favorites to snatch the Polish international.

We are not into the January transfer window yet and the Arkadiusz Milik soap opera has begun. One of the most talked players in the later stages of the summer transfer window was Milik. The 26 year old was desperate to secure a move away from Napoli as he was deemed as surplus to requirements after the arrival of Victor Osimhen and the renewal of Dries Mertens.

The Pole held talks with Juventus, AS Roma, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur but a move didn’t materialize due to Napoli’s demands of £25 million for a player who is in the final year of his contract.

Napoli and Roma also worked out a swap deal with Milik going to Rome and Cengiz Under coming the other way but the Gli Azzurri pulled the plug and eventually Under went to Leicester.

Milik wants to leave Stadio San Paolo in January in a bid to get back to playing regular first team football as he currently remains deserted out of Napoli team. There have been various publications stating that the Toffees will make an attempt to sign the 26 year old in the winter transfer window.

Napoli does not want to let Milik go for free next summer and are working with the player’s entourage to arrange an exit. The Neapolitans need liquidity and selling Milik in January makes the most sense.

With reports of PSG wanting Moise Kean permanently floating around, signing Milik in January won’t hurt the Royal Blues. However, the Merseysiders have been dealt with a major transfer blow as Corriere Dello Sport report that AS Roma are the favourites to sign the Everton target.

The report further claims that Napoli and Roma are set to meet soon on the negotiations table to ponder upon the transfer and how to close the deal. Milik is enticed by the salary package at Roma, pocketing €5 million a season until 2025.

Everton will have to offer more than Roma in order to lure the Polish international to Goodison Park. A reunion with Ancelotti is not ruled out yet but the entire deal won’t come cheap despite Milik being in the final six months of his contract.
