Everton failed to completely kill off the game, giving chances to Fulham to come back into the game.

2. Everton have trouble holding leads

It’s been an almost constant fact in Everton’s matches. They can’t manage a lead and almost always seem to let teams back in matches when they should be putting their foot on their opponents’ throats and closing out the match.

Just like the loss to Manchester United before the international break, when Bernard opened the scoring, but the Toffees weren’t able to hold the lead until half-time and went into the break down 2-1.

Against Fulham, Everton were on the scoreboard in the first minute when Calvert-Lewin scored. However, Bobby Cordova-Reid threatened with a mishit shot that Jordan Pickford scrambled away.

Everton didn’t take the warning and Cordova-Reid raced into the penalty area with Yerry Mina trailing behind and shooting across the Pickford to even the score. Goals from Calvert-Lewin and Abdouye Doucourye made it 3-1 at the half and looked to have settled the matter.

Everton escaped once in the second half, as Fulham’s misadventures from the penalty spot continued. Ben Godfrey gave away a penalty. However, Ivan Cavaleiro stepped up to take it. It looked like he slipped as he was running up and ballooned it over the bar, which probably made Ademola Lookman feel better.

That was only a brief respite, though. Lookman made a nice run before putting in a good ball that Ruben Loftus-Cheek put in the back of the net via a deflection off Mina.

It was all hands to the pump for the last 20 minutes of the match for Everton as Fulham seemed to have all of the ideas. However, Everton were able to hold on and take a much-needed victory.

It was the sixth Premier League match this season Everton have allowed two or more goals. That’s not really European qualifying statistics.

After the match, manager Ancelotti told the BBC, Everton have to improve their defending.
