According to a former Premier League striker Everton are strong favourites to land the Tottenham and England midfielder Harry Winks.
That player is Darren Bent who claims Everton are close to signing the Spurs midfielder who has fallen down the pecking order at the north London club.
Winks is a footballer that the Toffees have been previously linked with, mind you there is hardly a player here or in Europe that they aren’t these days!
But this story surfacing again is a bit of a surprise as recently we reported that Jose Mourinho had stated he wasn’t looking to offload the England international, despite Wink’s lack of playing time under the controversial Portuguese.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti does seem determined to strengthen his options in central midfield and he does lack depth with players like Tom Davies not good enough to consistently play at the level Everton are aspiring to reach.

He wants a player who can effectively support the ball-winning efforts of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure and give more solidity to his team’s centre midfield, but also offer additional attacking creativity as well.
In another transfer rumour that regularly does the rounds, the Blues are also supposedly looking hard at a deal with Juventus to sign their want-away midfielder Sami Khedira in this window.
It’s always seemed to me that this one has more legs than the Winks story.
Khedira is a player Ancelotti knows well from his time managing Real Madrid and he is generally keen on bringing more experience in to augment the young players at Goodison Park.
Of the two Khedira is probably the better bet short-term but Winks is much younger and so could be seen as a more astute investment over the next few years.
However, he’s not really been pulling up trees since making his debut a few seasons ago under then Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and I’m not convinced he would be the right player for Everton.
Bent’s speculation might not be worth much and I doubt Winks is a player on the radar of Ancelotti at the moment, but of course these stories are going to continue throughout the month ahead.
