Niels Nkounkou has taken many by surprise with his excellent performances.

Niels Nkounkou

This one is very unlikely to happen unless Everton suffer a shock defeat to Rotherham in the FA Cup, but Nkounkou has not been getting the football fans expected after his fantastic performances in the Carabao Cup.

The problem for Nkounkou is Ben Godfrey’s arrival as a great alternative to the injured Lucas Digne, and even though Nkounkou gets on the bench for the Toffees, he very rarely plays and is only on the bench just in case there is an injury.

The Frenchman has proven to be a great modern-day full-back, with the raw athleticism and speed to burst forward and cause problems, but the defence is not all there yet, which is understandable for somebody who’s still only 20-years old. It would benefit Nkounkou if he’s sent out on loan, with a return to Ligue 1 a move I think the Frenchman could definitely handle.

Ancelotti may want to keep the highly talented Nkounkou as on option just in case Godfrey suffers an injury, but if he’s not going to be given the game time he deserves, then it’s probably best for him if he’s sent out to a team where he will receive first-team football every week, to develop the parts of his game that aren’t all there yet, and playing only cup games for Everton won’t really help his development much.
