Zirkzee would be Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s understudy.

What can he offer to Everton?

Everton lacks depth in the striker’s position and there’s no running away from that fact. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been flying high this season, making unbelievable strides in last few months, however, he’s no robot. The hamstring injury that he suffered recently was an eye-opener, swinging the debate of bringing in a backup or not, heavily in one direction.

Cenk Tosun is not a dependable option with doubts being cast over his Everton future too. The player wants to play regularly ahead of the Euros this year but as long as DCL remains at Goodison Park, the chances of Tosun being the first choice are extremely rare, in fact, close to nil. Should the Turk depart, Zirkzee is a handy backup to have.

Even though he may have learnt a few tricks from the ultimate goal machine Lewandowski, the Dutchman is still refining his craft. A loan move to the English Premier League will be a huge experience gaining opportunity and also enable him to play under a three time Champions League winning coach. Whether a deal takes place or not remains to be seen but one thing is sure, Everton may have a gem on their hands if they can sign Zirkzee.
