Midfield:

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7

After picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves, Abdoulaye Doucoure will be suspended for the midweek Premier League fixture against Leicester City, so was always expected to start against Sheffield Wednesday.

With the continued absence of Allan, as well as Fabian Delph, Doucoure was required to play a more defensive role in Everton’s midfield, but was still able to get around the pitch and bring his usual energy to the side.

It was another busy performance from the Frenchman and his presence will be surely missed on Wednesday evening against an in-form Leicester side.

Andre Gomes – 8

Andre Gomes was given a chance to show what he can do from the start after a couple of impressive performance from the bench in recent weeks.

The Portuguese midfielder looks to be growing in confidence and showing glimpses of the player that the Blues faithful fell in love during Gomes’ first run in the side. He was physically imposing and positive when on the ball, grabbing another assist to help open the scoring by putting in a dangerous cross which Dominic Calvert-Lewin poked home.

It was a promising performance from Gomes and his goal involvement is something he needs to start doing on a more regular basis if he is to hold down a place in Ancelotti’s starting eleven.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6

Sigurdsson has found some good form in recent weeks and put in another decent performance last night. The Everton fans have stopped bemoaning the inclusion of the Icelandic midfielder in the side and have been pleased with his recent contributions to the team.

Although last night wasn’t his most spectacular performance, Sigurdsson did work well with Everton’s attacking players and was involved in some scintillating link-up play at times. He didn’t manage to grab a goal or assist but was positive on the ball throughout the game.
