Lucas Digne has the most number of assists as a defender this season (5).

Defence:

Right back: Seamus Coleman

Seamus Coleman came on as a substitute in the dying stages of the game against Leicester but could be in contention for a starting role. Mason Holgate does an exceptional role but doesn’t offer much during an attack. Newcastle United are not known for having an attacking style of play so the Everton defence doesn’t need to be concentrated on defence. Having proper full backs will allow Everton to break forward hence having Coleman is important.

Centre back: Michael Keane

Michael Keane was brilliant in defence in last game which is now quickly becoming a narrative for the entire season. Keane will have the responsibility to minimize the threat by Callum Wilson and also keeping a check on Allan Saint-Maximin. Newcastle are a team that likes to play long, a total of 1256 long balls this season (second in the league behind Burnley), which requires Keane to be aerially alert all the times.

Centre back: Yerry Mina

Yerry Mina has forged a solid, steel enforced partnership at the back. With Keane’s presence, Mina has become less error prone and has been able to demonstrate his skills to the fullest. Holgate slotting in at right back has worked well in favour of the Colombian, allowing him an extended run in the team. Mina too is a physical beast which will work well in taming the likes of Saint-Maximin, Wilson, and Miguel Almiron.

Left back: Lucas Digne

Lucas Digne played in the left midfield role and produced a fascinating display but now its time to return to home turf. His deliveries into the box are delicious and reverting back to a 4-2-3-1 would mean that the Frenchman will have to play in his regular position which means that Godfrey would sit out.
