Abdoulaye Doucoure will return to the Everton starting lineup.

Midfield:

Central midfield: Abdoulaye Doucoure

Doucoure’s presence, energy and power were missed in the previous game but with the former Watford man available this weekend, there’s no debate as to who will start in the midfield. Doucoure will be fresh and raring to go. Playing in the double pivot, he would enjoy the freedom of surging forward while also patrolling the defence.

Central midfield: Tom Davies

Andre Gomes had a better game than Davies last time but Davies is more suited than Gomes in the holding role. Davies doesn’t always do a spectacular job but is showing signs of improvement and has been able to do a considerable job in that role.

Gomes on the other hand enjoys roaming forward and dribbling past players but is not the best man to guard the defence. Allan is close to a return but until then Davies is a preferred choice.

Attacking midfield: James Rodriguez

This man that has transformed the Everton attack and supplied quality so much so that a team that was viewed as a mid table team is now being considered as a serious contender for top four. The fans are in awe of James Rodriguez especially when he racks up radiant performances one after the other. The beautiful strike against Leicester keeps playing on repeat in my head because that is how much stunning it was. There’s no doubt that he holds the key to unlocking Newcastle defence.
