The stage one of Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton rebuild began in the summer of 2020. The success of phase one forms the base for the beginning of phase two of the project. The idea was to bring immediate solutions that can function in the system and are aware of Ancelotti’s methods. The signings of James Rodriguez and Allan are serving the purpose.

The areas that required the utmost attention have been addressed. Last season, Everton had one of the most laggard midfields in the Premier League with wafer thin depth. The signings of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have uplifted the quality of the midfield and provided numerous options to Ancelotti to tinker with.

In Allan and Doucoure, the Toffees have two dynamic and different profiles that offer solidity, energy and astuteness. Now, Tom Davies has shown tremendous signs of progress and is learning the trade of being a No.6. Andre Gomes has more freedom to surge forward and be decisive in the opposition half.

Now that the midfield has found some stability, Ancelotti now wants to enhance the quality even further and bring a midfield profile that has different set of characteristics and boosts the depth in the middle of the park. According to several reports, Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot continues to remain a target for the Toffees.

Everton are tracking Adrien Rabiot

Rabiot was an Everton target last season but Juventus weren’t willing to sell him and eventually, the Merseysiders ventured for other options. However, Ancelotti continues to admire the 25 year old and aims to sign him in the summer transfer window of 2021. According to Il Bianconero, the Royal Blues have established contacts with the player’s mother who is also his agent.

As per the report, Adrien Rabiot (valued at £28 million by Transfermarkt ) is Everton’s first priority in the upcoming transfer window. Juventus remain open to a sale but their transfer fee demand stands at €30 million which is uneconomical in today’s market.

The former PSG man remains in Andrea Pirlo’s plans and continues to feature regularly, making 29 appearances this season. Ancelotti’s desire to reunite with Rabiot can spark a transfer in the summer with Everton opening the dialogue.

The Italian manager was able to extract the best out of Rabiot at PSG. Since then, Rabiot hasn’t always been able to fulfill the potential he’s had. Technically brilliant with a certain degree of physicality will work well for Rabiot should he move to the Premier League.

Ancelotti is Everton’s best bet to land them in Europe and lead them back to glory. He is orchestrating a revolution and so far things are going as per plan. The phase two of this multi-step rebuild will start this summer and it appears that strengthening the engine room is the top agenda.
