Mason Holgate could start over Seamus Coleman at right back.

Defence:

Right back: Mason Holgate

Seamus Coleman was excellent in keeping Andy Robertson in check and tracking each of the Scot’s movement. Ancelotti may go with Mason Holgate for more stability at the back and keep Coleman fresh for the West Brom trip in three days’ time. Holgate has slotted in the right back position numerous times and has held the fort well on the right flank. At times he has been shaky but he surely does offer assurance.

Centre back: Michael Keane

Michael Keane produced a defensively sound performance against Liverpool, negating the threats from Reds’ front three. Along with Ben Godfrey, Keane made the defence impenetrable. The Englishman will be tasked with keeping Danny Ings who has a formidable record against the Toffees. The former Liverpool man has scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in 10 league games against the Royal Blues. Keane will have to be alert and avert any risk that comes from Ings.

Centre back: Ben Godfrey

The duo of Keane and Godfrey are quickly becoming the favoruite central defensive pair. The 23 year old was superb against Liverpool, keeping the tempo in check and showing ruthless aggression which pleased Everton fans.

Godfrey is undoubtedly becoming one of the most impactful signings and has already won fans’ support through his actions and performances on the pitch. Against Southampton, he will have to help his partner in crime, Keane, to safeguard the defence.

Left back: Lucas Digne

Lucas Digne signed a contract extension a couple of days ago, committing to the club until 2025. This shows his belief in the club project and his dreams of reaching the Champions League with Everton. On the field, he is unarguably the best left back in the league, winning accolades through his all round performances. Despite missing over a month of action, Digne is tied with Aaron Cresswell for most assists by a defender (6).
