In this weeks latest transfer rumours one story says Everton are apparently keeping an eye on yet another young forward who has impressed this season: Silas Wamangituka.

HITC.com claim that Everton are tracking the 21-year-old along with Fulham from the Premier League and several other German clubs.

Wamangituka has been compared to Nicolas Pepe who made a huge money move to Arsenal two years ago for a massive £72  million. Pepe has had a fitful time at the Emirates Stadium and hasn’t as yet repaid that huge investment the Gunners made in him.

The young Stuttgart player Wamangituka is a very versatile footballer and although he’s generally played as an attacker, he can also contribute plenty defensively too.

This season has been a breakthrough campaign for the Congo-born player who has notched eleven goals and three assists so far largely playing on the right-wing or at centre-forward.

All this makes him the sort of forward the Toffees have been looking for, in theory at least. His age fits the profile as does his goals and versatility. He’s also been performing regularly and scoring those goals in a top European League.

Being able to play a number of different positions up front including as the pivot of the attack is an important strength as the Blues seek to improve and maximise their forward options.

As we point out today, Everton are apparently considering turning Josh King’s loan move into a permanent one even though he’s hardly featured much since he joined from Bournemouth.

If the Toffees do make King’s move a permanent one, then that casts doubt about whether they would in fact be looking to sign another forward this summer as the club aren’t likely to be splashing the cash as much this year as they did in 2020.

I actually think investing in a young player who can offer that additional pace and goal-scoring threat would make sense, if that player was available for a reasonable fee, say around the £15-20 million mark.

That might rule out a move for someone like Wamangituka, who’s young but also delivering in a comparable league, although Transfermarkt.co.uk value him at £22 million so who knows.

Of course as ever this is a story that as far as we know has no solid foundation yet and represents the latest in an umpteen number of such speculative transfer rumours.
