Allan makes Everton’s midfield diamond function smoothly

Midfield:

Central defensive midfield: Allan

Allan allows Everton to operate smoothly and efficiently in a midfield diamond. The Brazilian was initially rested in West Brom game but his absence was hurting the Toffees as they failed to take control of the game. Once Allan was brought on as a substitute, Everton looked much more comfortable and confident in the middle of the park.

Central midfield: Abdoulaye Doucoure

Abdoulaye Doucoure is a machine but even he seemed to have run out of greasing and oil as he had to be taken off in the last game after picking up a possible knock. However, it didn’t appear to be serious and he should be back against Chelsea. The former Watford man has hardly had any serious injury that has forced him on the lengthy layoff period. Doucoure’s energy and box-to-box character will be required against a Chelsea side that lineup in a 3-4-2-1.

Central midfield: Tom Davies

Andre Gomes was disappointing in the first half of the West Brom game but gained stability in the second half. However, he doesn’t offer much defensively and when Everton are facing the likes of Werner, Ziyech, Mason Mount and Pulisic, Tom Davies could be the right man to support the midfield. Davies should be fit and ready to start against Chelsea.

Attacking midfield: Gylfi Sigurdsson

What a turnaround it has been for Gylfi Sigurdsson. The scapegoat for Everton failures last season, has now become a highly dependable asset. This season he’s played in his natural and comfortable role of a creator behind the striker which has allowed him to reap maximum benefits. Sigurdsson may have a tough time in negotiating N’Golo Kante and Jorginho but there’s no hiding the fact that he’s got the technical abilities and mastermind brain to create in such situations.
