Another transfer rumour that has done the rounds is back with Everton being linked for it seems the umpteenth time with a move for Juventus and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

Everton have been one of a number of English clubs who have supposedly been eyeing up a move for the unsettled former Arsenal player.

Well now this story has surfaced again with Teamtalk now claiming the Toffees are the club Juventus would prefer Ramsey to go to this summer.

It does seem as though the Welshman’s time in Turin is coming to an end with Juventus willing to move him on and apparently desperate to get the 30-year-old and his hefty wages off their books in this upcoming transfer window.

The Blues also do need midfield reinforcements and more depth and in particular more drive and attacking flair from the middle of the park. They need players who can link up with and suppport the team’s forwards, something the current crop of midfielders don’t do much of.

On paper Ramsey is that sort of player. He offers both solid defensive skills, and is an excellent passer of the ball who creates plenty of chances, (he has four assists this season despite not being a guaranteed starter for Juve), who can chip in with goals too.

There is also another reason why this rumour might not be such a far-fetched one now and that is the Moise Kean saga.

As every Evertonian knows Kean has been on loan at PSG this season and has looked a player transformed from the unhappy, moody and very disappointing one we saw most often last season on those few occasions he played.

Now there are lots of stories doing the rounds that either or both of PSG and Juventus want to sign Kean when his loan deal in Paris finishes this summer.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

One of those rumours involves a possible player swap with Kean’s former club Juve from whom Everton signed the young Italian forward in 2019.

This would mean Kean returning to Italy with one or possibly two players going to other way. The Juve player most often mentioned is Adrien Rabiot but Ramsey could be another.

In theory, I think Ramsey especially the version we saw at Arsenal, would be an experienced addition and could offer attacking quality, versatility and depth to the Toffees midfield.

So who knows instead of a straight transfer for money, if the Blues could get him and maybe Rabiot too in exchange for Kean that might be worth considering if it would save money and enable the club to pursue other priorities like a young right-back and a new winger/forward as well.

Anyway even if such a sway deal were to be contemplated by Everton, I don’t think Ramsey would be the player Carlo Ancelotti himself is seeking. I might be wrong but given his age, injuries and especially his exorbitant wages, it’s likely Ancelotti and Marcel Brands will be looking at other younger, cheaper alternatives.
