A player long linked with a move to Everton is Real Madrid right-back Lucas Vasquez, but it’s been revealed that the Spanish star is injured and could be out for the remainder of the season.

According to Spanish media outlet Marca, the 29-year-old Everton target has picked up a knee injury which might keep him out until the summer when his contract runs out.

Such a situation would obviously complicate any possible move for the defender whether that was by the Blues or another club.

The Toffees need for reinforcement on the right side of the team is obvious and Vasquez is one of a growing number of such players being linked with a move to Goodison Park.

Stories have been bubbling along for a while now that Everton might be interested in signing him although recent rumours indicated that other clubs might have jumped ahead of the Toffees in the race for him.

Vasquez is a potentially fine recruit if the Blues were to genuinly step up their alledged interest in the player. He’s a very good all-round player and would offer defensive strength and attacking skill to the Toffees team.

Now though if he’s out for the rest of this campaign that will probably put off any clubs looking at signing him given his age as well.

While Vasquex offers the versatility and quality that the Blues do need he’s only a few years younger than current incumbant Seamus Coleman who has also had plenty of his own injury problems over the past few seasons.

Last night’s mind-numbing goalless draw at Brighton underlined again just how much the Toffees need to improve the options and quality of their attacking play, including on the right.

While injuries obviously played their part in undermining the ability of that team to produce any coherent attacking football against the Seagulls, there was also a desperate lack of options and attacking reserves on the Blues bench last night.

Carlo Ancelotti, Marcel Brands and the club top brass have to address this lack of creativity and attacking flair in the squad in this summers transfer window.
