High-flying West Ham United are apparently considering a bid for Norwich Sity star Max Aarons, a long time target of Everton.

Talksport claim the England Under-21 defender repeatedly linked with Everton, is on Hammers boss Davis Moyes wish list as he looks to try and build on the London club’s superb season.

According to this story Norwich are resigned to losing him this summer and Aarons would prefer a move to a club in the south of England and West Ham would fit that ideally of course.

I don’t know how much there is to that part of the story and let’s be honest he is likely to go where he will get the most money and where he thinks he will be best guarateed to play.

While this rumour is the usual media stuff of course, it may be that the Hammers would appeal more to Aarons if they can get Champions League football.

They are now much more likely to do so than the Blues who are currently eighth, three places and six points adrift of Moyes’ side.

A series of costly home defeats have undermined the Toffees slim hopes of finishing in the top four at the end of the season.

And it would of course be a little ironic if they lost out on one of their main summer targets to a club managed by the former Everton boss.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Especially when he might have repeated with West Ham his feat of 2004-05 when he got the Blues into the Champions League for the first and only time.

I don’t think the east London club will get into the top four but you never know and it’s still an open race for those final two places.

Anyway, what does seem certainly true is that the Toffees face a fight to secure Aarons signature with not just West Ham but also Manchester United and even Bayern Munich linked with him.

Everton need alternatives when considering a new face at right-back and we’ve looked at a few of those including Lucas Vasquez and Tariq Lamptey.

Whoever the club do eventually bring in they need to make sure that this player can provide the right combination of defensive solidness and attacking flair. It’s not actually that easy to do this as those types of full-backs are at a premium.
