As Everton think about their summer transfer plans and are assumed to be in the market for a new right-back this summer, the club are now being linked with a move for ex-Spurs defender Kieran Trippier.

This story comes from the Daily Mail who claim Everton are looking at the Atletico Madrid full-back and might offer him a return to English football.

They say that although the Toffees are most interested in reuniting Max Aarons with his former team-mate Ben Godfrey at Goodison Park, his fee might put them off.

Norwich are alledgely asking for around £30 million, which does seem a steep price although he’s young at 21 and an English player and those factors are going to force Everton or anyone else to pay a bit more.

Aarons is a very talented young full-back who would certainly solve the defensive need for a long-term replacement for Seamus Coleman.

The young English player isn’t perhaps the most attacking full-back but if he was jonined by a genuinly top class winger in front of him, then he would have the attacking threat the team needs.

It’s also likely that there will be a lot of clubs in for Aarons this summer both in England and possibly abroad as well so the Blues might well face a tough fight for his signature.

I think being able to offer to European football is a must to enable the club to continue to attract top talent and to show genuine progress is being made.

Trippier represents more of a safe option than Aarons in that he has plenty of Premier League experience and would offer much more offensively too.

He’s also a versatile defender and midfielder comfortable playing on either flank so would offer added options in defence as well as attack and could move across and fill in adequately for Lucas Digne for example if he was injured as he has been this season.

In addition, if Atletico are prepared to let him go they wouldn’t expect a fee as high as Norwich will do for Aarons. But having said all that his age might count against him as he’s onyl a few years younger than Coleman.

So at any rate it means a little bit of weighing things up for the Blues if indeed they are considering these players to help fill that critically weak side of the team.
