Everton’s biggest concern ahead of the next season is its lack of pace while building the attack which is because of the absence of quick players on the flanks. In order to solve this issue, a speedster must arrive this summer at Everton and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi could be a good fit.
It is not even a bar debate as to whether the Toffees lack pace and quality out wide. They definitely do. Alex Iwobi has been unimpressive in his two years at Goodison and doesn’t feature regularly in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans. Bernard could be on his way out of Everton this summer. Theo Walcott has already left the club and Anthony Gordon is still in his developmental stages and is metamorphosing.
Richarlison has played as a winger on the left flank and has been productive but with Ancelotti preferring a two striker formation, the Brazilian partners up front with Dominic Calvert-Lewin. James Rodriguez has occasionally on the right flank but he is not your traditional winger who will pump speed in your system. The Colombian has never been a speedster with a booster on his back, he’s the artist who threads salivating through balls, making exquisite passes and creating chances with his superb vision.
So, the only way of solving the problem is to go into the transfer market and sign a winger. Several players have already been mentioned as potential targets for the Royal Blues. Joaquin Correa, Goncalo Guedes, Josip Brekalo are some who have been linked recently.
Everton should target Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi
However, there is another winger who is reportedly available. Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge. As per a report from Eurosport, Chelsea are willing to let the Englishman leave this summer.
Even though Borussia Dortmund has been touted as a destination nothing is fixed yet and the Toffees should give it a shot. Hudson-Odoi has struggled for regular game time under both managers Chelsea have had this season. The 20-year-old has just managed 10 league starts and 4 Champions League starts. Initially, Thomas Tuchel seemed to count on the Englishman but eventually, he has overlooked him.

Hudson-Odoi is still very young and has to hone his skills. An experienced and brilliant man-manager Ancelotti could be an ideal guide to Hudson-Odoi. The 20-year-old has shown a lot of promise and can still be developed into a better player.
At Chelsea it is becoming increasingly difficult to get game time as the back three formation doesn’t favour Hudson-Odoi’s chances much and competing with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount for the attacking role has often seen Hudson-Odoi lose the battle.
He’s quick, agile and full of life. Now, he’s not a proven match-winner but if incubated correctly, he can be a big threat to the opposition. Everton should be in the race to sign the Englishman. Chelsea are willing to part ways and Everton must pay attention to Hudson-Odoi’s situation.
