Apparently interest in the new Everton job is very high with something like 40 CV’s submitted to Director of Football Marcel Brands.

We know who the main contenders are (at least according to the media) and we’re analysing all of them in detail, but one name that hasn’t been on many people’s lips is Christophe Galtier the ex-Lille boss. Could he be an option for Everton?

I’ve previously said that in an ideal world I’d want Ralf Rangnick for the job but I dont know how realistic that would be to be honest.

Galtier has just left the new French champions after doing a sterling job to hold off PSG, the Manchester City of French football with their Middle Eastern money and pulling power.

Lille finished top by just a point on the final day but that was enough to claim the title and it’s quite an acheivement for Galtier.

So who is the French coach and what would he bring to Goodison Park?

Galtier has been around in French football for a while now and having finally landed a job with a good side he’s delivered a title after a few years of building.

The 54-year-old Frenchman generally stays with a club for a while having spent an average of about five years in each job, that would certainly be a positive change from the recent past!

He’s also had some limited previous experience in English football when he was an assistant coach at Portsmouth a few years back.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

Lille have a reputation for bringing though young players and then selling them on for a good profit, something the Toffees have been trying to do under Brands. One such player was Brazilian centre-back Gabriel who the Blues were very keen on last year but who opted for Arsenal instead.

This could help address a major issue that Everton have where they have failed to bring through enough of the best youngsters in the clubs youth system.

I’m not sure exactly why this is but it was very much still the case with Carlo Ancelotti who seemed very reluctant to give young players a chance. Doing so would help save money and so perhaps a coach like Galtier would help bring those youngsters through more effectively?

The former St Etienne boss likes to play positive, front-foot, attacking football and his Lille team created a lot of chances but were also strong defensively. It’s a good, balanced formula.

Galtier has been linked with a move to Tottenham as they search for a replacement to their hollywood manager Jose Mourinho, but they now seem to be set to bring in Antonio Conte so it seems he will be available for a little while yet.

He’s not a headline-grabbing name for sure but he’s got a solid reputation and is a recent title-winner in a better league than Portugal’s for example.

Anyway, obviously this frenzied speculation will obviously continue until Everton do finally make a decision on who they want to succeed Ancelotti. We wait and see..
