Everton: Reasons why Rumours of Calvert-Lewin departure are just that
Everton’s main man
He signed a five-year deal about a year ago and while a contract doesn’t mean that much anymore in the world of football anymore.
The new long-term deal means more than money, it shows Everton wants and expects the 24-year-old to continue to develop and grow as the Everton centre-forward.
He finished the 2020-21 season with 21 goals in 39 total appearances, which works out to slightly better than a goal every other match. That breaks down to 16 goals in 33 league matches. Last season, Calvert-Lewin had 13 goals in 36 EPL matches, In 2020-21, he added two more goals in three FA Cup outings and three more in three League Cup games. The season before, the Sheffield-born striker added two more goals in four League Cup contests.
He first started wearing that magical No. 9 at the start of 2019-20 and he knew his history, too. In 2019, he told the Club’s official website
"With a big number like that comes big responsibility. I accepted that role and I am grateful to be wearing the number nine for Everton. It is a massive thing for me."
Calvert-Lewin knows who’s boots he scores in and he welcomes what others might call pressure, telling the official website
"I like to think I have shown I am ready to live up to the expectations of being Everton’s number nine. But I am well aware of how much I need to improve and how much better I can do."
