The recently concluded Euro 2020 was a platform for many footballers to shine in the limelight and see their stock rise. Benfica striker Haris Seferovic can attest the above statement. The Swiss striker is now garnering attention form three English clubs – Everton, West Ham United and Wolves.

Switzerland delivered one of the biggest shocks of the tournament, eliminating and rather embarrassing France, who were considered as one of the favourites to win the quadrennial tournament.

Even though Switzerland managed to win on penalties, some fantastic individual performances laid the foundation for the victory. One such standout performer was Seferovic. The 29 year old scored three goals in five games for the Swiss side and was appreciated by the fans for his impressive showings at the Euros.

In 2020-21 season, Seferovic was Benfica’s top scorer, netting 26 goals in 48 games. The 29 year old was just one goal shy of being the top scorer of the league, finishing with 22 league goals just one behind Pedro Goncalves. Seferovic has been with Benfica since 2017 and has amassed 173 appearances for the Os Encarnados, scoring 69 times and providing 23 assists. After a successful Euro campaign, clubs have shown interest in the 6’2’’ striker.

Everton to rival Wolves and West Ham for Haris Seferovic

As per reports from A Bola (via Sport witness), Everton and Hammers are interested in signing Seferovic. A couple of weeks ago, another report highlighted Toffees’ interest in the 29 year old. Last week, Portuguese outlet 0 Jogo suggested that Benfica could allow a sale worth €25 million.

Now that he has shined at the Euros, Benfica may have to brace for offers from multiple clubs apart from the aforementioned. Everton’s interest in Seferovic is a bit unexpected at the moment.

More from Prince Rupert's Tower

The Royal Blues house Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean, Richarlison and Cenk Tosun in the strike force. While Richarlison could be deployed on the wings (if he stays at Goodison Park this season), Everton still have enough fire power.

Kean has returned from loan at PSG and while PSG want to take him on another loan, the Toffees won’t entertain any loan proposals. In case no offer arrives, Kean would continue at Everton and could get an extended role in the team. Tosun is currently recovering from an injury and won’t be fit until October. Nonetheless, the Turk wouldn’t be high in the pecking order.

DCL will remain the prime striker and while Kean is showing promising signs of progress. If things go wrong, Richarlison could slot in the striker’s role. The need for another striker seems a bit farfetched.

Seferovic isn’t the quickest or the most mobile striker. What he’s good at is he’s able to link up well and take smart touches. The forward is strong in aerial duels which you’d expect from a player standing six feet tall. Everton could instead look at other areas that need immediate attention. Additionally, the competition from West Ham and Wolves can make it very tricky for the Toffees, especially considering that the Hammers can offer Europa League football next season.

It is worth noting that so far no bids or talks have taken place but repeated reports from Portuguese outlets hint that there is interest for sure from Everton.
