New reports today claim Everton have made a substantial bid for Lazio and Argentina forward Joaquin Correa and are ‘confident’ of a deal being done.

This rumour has kept surfacing in recent weeks and now according to this latest report Everton are closing in on the striker who would if he joined, become Rafa Benitez’s fifth signing.

This outcome though does seem an unlikley scenario despite the fact the alledged link comes from a mainstream source like the Sunday Mirror.

As we all know all too well by now the Blues are strapped for cash and need to sell before they can buy any more players unless those players are the kind of cheap buys that Benitez has been specialising in this summer.

The rumoured stories are that Everton are willing to put in a bid of around £30 million, which sounds way over whatever funds the Toffees do have.

And this comes only days after other reports claimed that the Argentina star was not interested in leaving Italy and was a target of Inter Milan.

Inter of course just recently beat Everton to the signing of Holland right-back Denzel Dumfries, a player the Blues had been pursuing for a while this summer.

Talking of right-backs, it appears the Toffees have made a bid for Rangers 19-year-old youngster Nathan Patterson, but it has been rejected by the Glasgow club.

At the moment it’s not clear if Everton will go back for the Rangers player but the search for a new right-back goes on.

Patterson has only just come into the Rangers squad after emerging from the Gers’ youth system and is certainly affordable in terms of the new reality of Blues spending being valued at around £1 million by transfermarkt.co.uk.

While he has a number of important transfer issues to sort out getting a new option in this position is surely critical.

At the moment the only senior specialist Seamus Coleman and the 32-year-old club captain no longer a player who can be relied upon die to age and injuries.
