Last year, Everton paid major attention to upgrading a futile midfield, signing Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure. The Brazilian midfielder followed Carlo Ancelotti from Napoli and was one of the two Ancelotti signings, the other being James Rodriguez.
Allan signed a three year deal at Goodison Park, arriving from Napoli for a fee around £21.7 million. Under Ancelotti, Allan was the sole defensive midfielder, acting as a guardian of the backline. The Brazilian stuck close to the defence, breaking up opposition play and dismantling their attack.
In summer of 2021, Ancelotti left abruptly casting doubts on signings that arrived because of Ancelotti’s pulling power. Ultimately, James left but Allan has sparkled in the new setup under new manager Rafa Benitez. Under the Spaniard, the 30 year old midfielder is much more than just a protector of the rearguard.
He has added an attacking flavor to his play which has seen him record one assist and play 0.7 key passes per game. He makes those press breaking runs which allows the Toffees to transition quickly into attack. The former Udinese man has been shining in the Everton colours which has not gone unnoticed in Italy.
Juventus want Everton midfielder Allan
According to journalist Fabio Santini on Il Processo (via Sport Witness), Juventus boss Max Allegri admires the profile of Allan. Juventus have had a stuttering start to their season, sitting in seventh place with just 11 points in seven games. The Old Lady manager has asked the club to make an effort to sign the Everton man in the January transfer window.
"Massimiliano Allegri asked for a footballer whom they know very well from Napoli because he played some excellent football years in Campania: I refer to Allan. As a partial counterpart, Ramsey could instead end up in England. (via Area Napoli)"
The Bianconeri need to make effective amendments to catch up to high fliers like Napoli and the Milan powerhouses. Allegri views Allan as a suitable candidate and in order to sweeten up the deal, Juventus are willing to offer Aaron Ramsey in part exchange. Ramsey has been linked with a return to the Premier League for last couple of transfer windows.
The Welshman no longer features in Juve’s plans and is pocketing a mammoth £400,000 per week at the Allianz Stadium. On the other hand, Allan is a core player in the Everton midfield. Benitez trusts the Brazilian. Along with Doucoure, Allan form a productive and an efficient midfield pair.
Everton won’t be willing to let the 30 year old leave, especially when he is a key player in the current system. Allan seems to enjoy his stay and Merseyside and has gelled well with the club. At this point, it looks highly unlikely that the midfielder will wish to return to Italy.
Will Juventus make an attempt to sign Allan?
